In de originele bron gaat het verder:The incident took place in the Paruabhadi village under Sindhekela police limits in Odisha’s Bolangir district on July 3. The incident, however, came to the public eye when a video went viral.
According to reports, when several people started getting sick in the village due to unknown reasons, the locals suspected it was due to the victim's sorcery practice. A meeting of the village elders was then held, following which the decision to 'punish' the victim was taken.
On July 3, a group of villagers armed with sticks went to Bagarti's house, dragged him out, and thrashed him mercilessly in public view.
On being informed of the incident, the police reached the spot and detained both groups, later the police took Bagarti to the hospital. They also detained a few villagers.
Balangir Police SP Nitin Kushalkar told India Today, "Three people have been arrested, they were charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code."
Manmoth Bagarti, the family member of the victim, told India Today TV, "They dragged my brother out of our house and thrashed him badly, they forced him to drink urine and eat excreta. I have named all those who thrashed him in the FIR."
Seema, another relative of the victim said, "Instead of detaining those who thrashed him and taking him (the victim) to the hospital, the police detained both -- the victim too. Later they took the victim to the hospital for treatment after we pleaded for medical care."
In a similar incident on July,1 in Ganjam’s Chatrapur block, a man was forced to eat human waste, his teeth pulled out with pliers before he was lynched over suspicion of practising witchcraft.
